In 2006, Nike SB introduced the Brazil Custom Series, a collection of limited-edition sneakers designed in collaboration with Brazilian skateboarders and artists to celebrate the country’s skate culture. The inaugural series featured contributions from skateboarders Cezar Gordo, Fabio Cristiano, Rodrigo Petersen Gerdal, and photographer Flavio Samelo. Each participant infused their personal experiences and inspirations into the design of their respective Nike SB Dunk models, resulting in unique and culturally resonant footwear.
The campaign, developed by the agency F/Nazca, included an interactive website where users could customize their own sneakers and delve into the stories behind each collaborator’s design choices. The site offered downloadable content such as wallpapers, MSN emoticons featuring skateboard tricks, photos, and videos, providing an immersive experience that connected fans with the creative process and the essence of Brazilian skateboarding.
This initiative not only showcased Nike SB’s commitment to the local skate scene but also played a pivotal role in igniting sneaker culture in Brazil, with each model produced in limited quantities and highly sought after by enthusiasts.
