Brazil is experiencing a widespread crisis, with unprecedented corruption scandals coming to light. The sheer volume of allegations and the vast sums involved can make it difficult for readers to grasp the true impact of these figures. To address this, we developed the “Corruption Converter” for the Estadão newspaper’s portal. This tool allows users to translate the amounts embezzled into tangible public goods and services that are lacking, such as ambulances, vaccines, school meals, and medications. By juxtaposing reports of misappropriated funds with the essential services that could have been provided, the tool offers a clearer perspective on the real-world consequences of corruption.
